A Golden Gate man faces a felony battery charge following a fight at a North Naples McDonald's that landed a victim in the hospital with multiple facial injuries, Collier County sheriff's deputies said.
Shawn Derrick Lopez, 26, of the 5200 block of 17th Avenue Southwest, was arrested by Collier deputies Wednesday, about two weeks after the early-morning fight Aug. 24 near U.S. 41 and Immokalee Road.
Deputies said Lopez was part of a group that attacked the victim after a verbal altercation involving one of the victim's friends, an arrest report said. The victim said he was punched from behind after his friend was accused of cursing at a woman, the report said.
Witnesses told deputies that Lopez and a group of men punched and stomped on the victim's head when the arguing escalated. Multiple witnesses said the victim appeared unconscious as he was being beaten, according to the report. The victim told deputies he suffered several jaw fractures, a fractured nose and a concussion, among other injuries.
Lopez told investigators he was at the McDonald's but denied hitting or stomping the victim, the report said. He remains in jail on $50,000 bond.
