If you have been to one of the Collier County libraries since September 1st, you know this. You saw a poster, or were given some information about it by one of the wonderful library staff.
If your email address is in the Friends of the Library member database, you know this. You were recently emailed its newsletter that had an article about it.
If you have run into me anywhere in the past two weeks, you know this. I can't stop talking about it. I even sent an email to some of the people in my personal contact list giving them a heads-up.
For the rest of you, here is the news: The Collier County Public Library System is partnering with more than a dozen community businesses to make the library card you have in your wallet or key ring even more valuable in September. I believe all discounts exclude alcohol and cannot be combined with any other offer, discount or special. When in doubt, ask.
Your library gives you so much: books, videos, adult and children's programs, access to online tools and databases. What can you do for the library? You know the answer that I'm going to give. Be a Friend!
An individual membership is just $25, but, of course, you may want to write a bigger check. The dollars you donate are used to augment the basic services of the library that are covered by our taxes. "Like what?" you may ask. Well, here are some examples. With the cuts in the county budget, this library line item has been considerably reduced over the past few years. So, Friends funds have been used to acquire books. They also pay for the Library Volunteer Recognition Program, professional development and continuing educational opportunities for library staff, and many of the adult and children's programs.
Remember, your library card and all that goes with it (including those special September only deals listed above) is what the library does for you. Being a Friend is what you can do for the library. Pick up a Friends brochure or call 262-8135 to learn how to be a real Friend of the Library.
