Prep cross country: Lely boys third, girls fourth at Lemon Bay

The Lely High School boys cross country team was third, and the girls finished fourth at the Lemon Bay Invitational in Englewood on Saturday.

Jesus Hernandez led the Trojans boys, finishing ninth in 18:36. Santiago Ospina was 11th in 18:44. Richmond Brooks took 22nd in 19:45, followed by Wyatt Macalister in 31st in 20:34. Lely's Ryan Davidson was 38th in 20:53. Lely coach Mark McGarity said he was excited about the beginning of the season, and is looking forward to a great season.

Lely's boys won the junior varsity race, with Tony Porter and Argenis Ramirez taking the top two spots.

For the girls, Jenny Vasquez finished 17th to lead the Trojans in a time of 24:07. Taylor Fetzer was 21st in 24:27, and Jordin Giles was 22nd in 24:30. Melissa Gomez followed in 25th in 24:49, Susana Martinez was 27th in 25:20. Lely girls coach Chris Black said he was very pleased with the girls' efforts to start the season.

Lemon Bay won both the boys and girls titles.
