47-year-old Lee man drowns on Fort Myers Beach

The drowning victim on Fort Myers Beach has been identified as Ronald Edward Wilks, 47, of Lehigh Acres, the Lee County Sheriff's Office reports.

Swimmer dies on Fort Myers Beach

A man died Sunday afternoon on Fort Myers Beach, the Lee County Sheriff's Office reports.

The unidentified man was pronounced dead about 6 p.m. Sunday on the beach behind DiamondHead Resort.

The Sheriff's Office received a call around 5:45 p.m. regarding a missing person that had gone swimming. As the deputies were responding to the call, another call was received regarding a person being found unconscious and not breathing on the beach.

Paramedics arrived to give the man first aid, but after a thorough effort by EMS, the man was pronounced dead, according to the Sheriff's Office.
