Collier commissioners OK nearly $2 million to replace White Blvd. bridge in Golden Gate Estates

— Collier County commissioners approved a $1.98 million contract for the replacement of the White Boulevard bridge in Golden Gate Estates.

Marlene Messam, the senior project manager with the county's Growth Management department, said the bridge has structural and functional deficiencies that require it to be replaced.

Originally, the project was part of a more than $4 million project that would also construct a new bridge at 23rd Street Southwest. However, budget shortfalls have caused the county to scale back those plans.

The project was rebid earlier this summer and Zep Construction was the low bidder.

Construction on the bridge is expected to begin in December.
