TV anchor Amy Wegmann will not be returning to Fox 4, the station announced on Wednesday.

Wegmann has been on extended leave after the birth of her son and as her husband, Trey Radel, runs for Congress.

Radel won the Republican primary in August and will face Democrat Jim Roach and nonparty candidate Brandon Smith in the Nov. 6 election to replace Connie Mack for the District 19 seat.

"This was a very difficult decision for me, but I want to help my husband become our next U.S. Congressman," Wegmann said in a news release. "I will miss the day-to-day news activity and the people at Fox 4."

Wegmann, who went to high school in Cape Coral, started at Fox 4 in 2005 as a reporter and eventually became the co-anchor with Patrick Nolan for the nightly newscasts.

"Amy was not just a news anchor," Eric Maze, News Director at Fox 4, said, "she was invested in covering the news in her hometown and that's what made her work special for viewers."

Judy Kenney, vice president and general manager of Fox 4, announced Emily Dishnow will replace Wegmann.
