The Gulf Coast High School girls cross country team finished sixth at the University of Florida Mountain Dew Invitational in Gainesville on Saturday. Thirty-nine high school teams from across the state competed.
Caroline Barlow led the Shark girls, finishing fifth in 19:31. Samantha Davis was 16th in 20:11, and Danielle De Greef finished 20th in 20:18. Kali Heller-Spencer took 83rd in 22:23, followed by Allayna Vanderheid in 90th in 22:27 to round out the Sharks top five positions.
Gulf Coast coach Paul Barlow said he was very pleased with the team's effort for the first meet of the season and is looking forward to rest of the season.
For the boys, Jack Lindsay led the Sharks, placing 136th in 19:22. Mike Alzamora finished in 19:26, followed by Xavier Laurent in 20:05, Joaquin Flores in 20:16 and Michael Disque in 20:49 for the Sharks. The boys finished 31st overall.
