Collier County company chosen to build neighborhood

A North Naples country club community has selected a Collier County company to build its second neighborhood.

The 461-acre Talis Park, along Livingston Road near Orange Blossom Drive, chose Fox Custom Builders to construct semi-custom homes in the Brightling neighborhood.

Talis Park's first neighborhood, Fairgrove, was introduced in June and is being built by Paradise Homes of Sarasota. Construction is under way.

The Brightling neighborhood will offer homes with 2,600 to 3,400 square feet of space. Prices will begin at $1.1 million.

Three Southwest Floridians among richest Americans

The Jacksonville Jaguars owner, a Buffalo Sabres co-owner and the founder of Best Buy have more than Southwest Florida in common. All have made the Forbes 400 list of the richest Americans.

Shahid Khan, a Naples resident who owns the Jaguars of the National Football League, was at No. 179 with $2.5 billion.

Tom Golisano, a Naples resident who co-owns the Sabres of the National Hockey League and whose name is on the Ave Maria University sports fieldhouse, is at No. 298 with $1.6 billion.

And Richard Schulze, of Bonita Springs, Best Buy co-founder, is at No. 311 with $1.5 billion.

Microsoft Corp. co-founder Bill Gates remained No. 1 for the 19th year in a row, with $66 billion.

American Airlines cancels Southwest Florida flight

American Airlines has scratched at least one flight at Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers.

Flight 1465 from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to Fort Myers on Sunday is canceled.

American, which sent layoff notices this week to 11,000 workers, is scaling back 1 to 2 percent of its flights, said Martha Pantin, an American spokeswoman in Miami.

That's about 300 canceled flights out of about 24,000 departures per week, she said.

"We're seeing a higher number than usual of sick calls. And we're seeing a larger number than usual of maintenance calls," she said, explaining why American canceled flights.

"These have been pro-actively canceled because we want to provide the most reliable customer service."
