Manatee boys, Gulfview girls win Eagle Invitational

Manatee boys, Gulfview girls win Eagle Invitational

In a steady rain the Manatee boys and Gulfview girls won their events in the Eagle Invitational at Mackle Park on Marco Island Saturday.

The day featured races among the top seven best from each school.Marco Island Charter Middle School's Rosie Poling and Josh Wagner each won their races, but the stronger depth of other teams left each Marco team in fourth place in the final counts.

"It was a great day for racing," said Roger Raymond, cross country coach at Marco Island Charter Middle School. "The temperature was good (70 degrees) and we saw some excellent runners."

For the boys, Manatee Middle School came in first with five runners that counted for team points finishing in the top 15.

Jose Rodriguez and Luis Rubio raced to second and third, Rudge Hippolite, sixth, Yosdany Rodriguez, seventh and Sam Martinez, 15th.

In the girls race, Oakview won with five girls in the top 18.Rebecca Shakour was sixth, Meredith Price, seventh, Angela Caldwell, 11th, Madison Weeks, 12th and Chloe Bryant, 18th.

Wagner won the boys in a time of 10:46 and Poling in 11:17 on a distance of 1.83 miles.

The top seven races each had 77 competitors.Another 150 runners, who did not run in the top seven contest, competed, but the times were unofficial and only kept by each team.

For the boys teams, following Manatee were East Naples, second, Gulfview, third, Marco Charter, fourth, North Naples, fifth, Oasis Middle, sixth, Golden Gate, seventh, Pine Ridge, eighth, LaBelle, ninth, Oak Ridge 10th and First Baptist Academy, 11th.

The top five boys for Marco were Wagner, Michael Poling, 20th, Kole Bartos, 21st, Dody Demalavez and 38th, Santiago Ruiz.

For the girls, Oasis was second, North Naples, third, Marco, fourth, First Baptist, fifth, Oak Ridge, sixth, East Naples, seventh, Manatee, eighth, Pine Ridge, ninth, La Belle, 10th and Golden Gate 11th.

The top five girls for Marco were, Poling, Julia Cartwright, 13th, Bailey Greaves, 29th, Ellen Angersbach, 37th and Bibi Marroquin, 41st.
