A Golden Gate Estates man is accused of driving away after a Wednesday crash with a motorcyclist, only to return to the scene about 20 minutes later.

Erol Dundar, 43, was arrested by Collier County sheriff’s deputies upon his return.

Just before noon, witnesses said Dundar abruptly switched lanes in a Nissan Altima, causing motorcyclist James Schiavone to strike the back of his car. Schiavone, whose age wasn’t given in reports, was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital for a head injury.

Dundar later told deputies he drove off because he was in shock, adding that he wanted to retrieve his cellphone from his home on the 2800 block of Cypress Trace Circle. He said he returned to the scene because he felt bad for the motorcyclist, according to an arrest report.

Dundar faces a felony charge of failure to remain at a crash involving injuries. Jail records show he posted $5,000 bond Wednesday.

A hospital spokeswoman said Schiavone was at the hospital Tuesday in fair condition.
