Emerald Beach downs Sunset House in bocce

In a best 3-out-of-five, Emerald Beach won the bocce challenge over Sunset House on March 21.

Emerald Beach was considered the underdog, being it was its

first season playing.

Nancy Sheridan was introduced to the game last

summer in Maine. She played on grass at a family gathering, and loved it.

Being on Marco for the winter she put up a flyer, made by Joanie Shields, an Emerald resident, asking anyone interested in bocce to meet at Mackle Park. Nine of eh 12 had never played.

Each week there was much improvement and a lot of fun.

Into the seventh week, Bill Ried of Sunset House put out the bocced challenge. Emerald Beach, little reluctantly, said yes.

On March 21 Sunset House showed up in matching tee shirts and a very large and loud cheering section. Emerald Beach players thought, “they are seriouos.”

The games were very close, all decided by just a point. the victory was sweet. Sunset House presented Emerald Beach with a traveling trophy. Gold Medals were given to each member of the team by Rebecca Vaughn. A party followed on the beach bridge at The Emerald.
