Sinkhole forces Tampa area family from home

RUSKIN — A backyard sinkhole has forced a family in the Tampa area to leave their home.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue officials say the family went to a friend's home after the sinkhole was spotted Thursday night. Ruskin is near Tampa and not far from Seffner, where 37-year-old Jeffrey Bush was killed when a sinkhole opened under his bedroom on Feb. 28.

The Tampa Tribune reports the sinkhole measured 7-feet long and 2-feet wide. It was about 10 feet from the family's home.

A fire rescue officials says it was too dark to determine how deep the sinkhole measured.

The backyard was roped off and officials were expected to return Friday morning to examine the sinkhole.
