FGCU baseball evens series against Kennesaw State

The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team overpowered Kennesaw State with a 5-3 win on Saturday.

The Eagles (19-8) evened the series after dropping the first game, 6-1, of the three-game series against the Owls (18-14) on Friday.

Sophomore third baseman Zack Tillery, a Barron Collier graduate, led the way for the Eagles, hitting .750 at the plate with two RBIs.

Tillery put the Eagles on top with a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning by bringing in freshman Nick Rivera. After Kennesaw State answered back in the fifth inning, the Eagles piled on the runs. FGCU scored one run in the sixth inning and three in the top of the eighth, to extend its lead to four.

Kennesaw State battled back, scoring a run in each of the final two innings, but its effort was not enough as FGCU walked away with the victory.

FGCU will conclude its series against Kennesaw State today at 1 p.m. in Kennesaw, Ga.
