An East Naples man is accused of breaking into a neighbor’s home and stealing his laptop and sport utility vehicle.

The victim said he had been upstairs reading and resting Monday at his home on the 3300 block of Guilford Road until he went downstairs at 1 p.m. He then noticed a bathroom door ajar and found his laptop and his keys were missing, according to an arrest report.

Collier County sheriff’s deputies later found the victim’s Lincoln MKX two block from his home on the 3400 block of Goldie Lane. Deputies said they recognized the SUV’s passenger, Troy Christopher Sample, from prior arrests.

Sample, 29, ran to the back of a home, but deputies later found him hiding in a tool shed, reports said. Sample’s girlfriend, who was driving the SUV, said she was told Sample had borrowed the vehicle.

Sample, who lives on the 3400 block of Goldie Lane, faces charges of grand theft, grand theft auto and burglary of an occupied dwelling.
