Prep tennis: Naples, Fort Myers boys to conclude tied regional semifinal Wednesday

Naples High School boys tennis coach Tony Kamen may have expected “lights-out” play on Tuesday against Fort Myers in the Class 3A regional semifinals.

He never expected the park lights to actually go out.

“I’ve been [coaching] for 14 years,” Kamen said. “I’ve never seen this happen.”

The match was tied 3-3 when Naples players Jack Riess and Garrett Gould battled Fort Myers’ Adam Hamilton and Chris Green in the deciding No. 1 doubles match. The Naples duo won the first set 6-3, but Hamilton and Green fought back with a 7-6 win in the second set.

With the decisive third set to play, the lights at South Fort Myers went off.

Naples will travel back to Fort Myers on Wednesday at 3 p.m. to play one set to conclude the match. The winner will advance to play Barron Collier in the Class 3A regional finals Thursday.
