Robby Baker is excited about taking over as the head coach of the Lely volleyball program.

Baker, who replaces Daniel Selvey, has made a banner to promote the team and is making sure other spring athletes, in any sport, are aware of the team.

He also has initiated a special sponsorship program on the team’s website. He says he is protecting his rights to his turkey chili he unveiled at a recent tournament.

Baker is cooking up a plan to meet with middle school principals and physical education directors to talk about his program. He also wants to see his team members look to serve as mentors for younger players.

Previously he served as freshman volleyball and JV volleyball coach at Barron Collier. He is a 2003 Barron Collier graduate, where he played football, baseball and golf. He is a graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University.

Hardley has a volleyball background. Her Fruitport, Pa. High School won the state championship and her Division II Grand Valley State won a national championship.

His philosophy on basketball is technical and tactical. I want our kids to be so good fundamentally that it becomes natural,” he said. That’s how we can spend more time on tactical.”

Baker wants to develop team continuity as they learn life lessons.

“You can make great friends and they can build confidence in themselves for beyond volleyball,” he said.
