SW Florida weather: Bet on wet weekend

A cold front that is slowly moving across the Southeast today will be over Southwest Florida on Saturday morning. The front will stall out and essentially meander across the southern tip of the state this weekend, and it will be the focal point for cloudy skies and scattered storms.

The day with the highest probability of storms is Saturday while the front is closest to Southwest Florida. On Friday, we will see a slight increase in cloud cover, and a few storms firing during the heating of the day as highs get to 87 degrees.

Saturday will be a cloudy day with scattered storms bringing pea-sized hail, excessive lightning, heavy rain and gusty winds. Sunday, the chance for rain will lessen as the front begins to move away, but don't expect a completely dry end to the week. Isolated showers and storms will remain in our forecast.

Next week, 90-degree temperatures are in the forecast for the first time since September.
