Q: I was wondering what is going into the commercial property that is under renovation at the southwest corner of Fern Street and Danford Street? Thank you.

— Terry, East Naples

A: Mike’s Bait House is scheduled to open this fall on that East Naples property near Naples Botanical Garden, Hamilton Harbor Yacht Club and Bayview Park.

Depending on the time and permitting to gut the existing structure and add a pitched roof, the new bait and tackle shop should be open in six months, said Mike McEndree, who co-owns the business with his wife, Tammy.

“Anything to improve the neighborhood. It’s not going to be an eyesore anymore,” McEndree said.

An avid fisherman and boater who has launched his boats at nearby Bayview Park for 30 years, McEndree said his new business will be a convenience for customers with boats because they won’t have difficulty parking or maneuvering.

“They can easily come in with a boat with trailer because it’s on a corner lot,” he said. “You can drive in one way and out the other.”

The 1,800-square-foot store at 2052 Danford St. will sell ice, soda and bait.

“It’s more of a hobby than anything,” said McEndree, who retired from United Parcel Service last October after working as a delivery driver for 31 years.
