Prep softball: Naples, Lely and Neumann win playoff games

District 6A-14

NAPLES 5, PALMETTO RIDGE 1

The Naples softball team defeated Palmetto Ridge 5-1 in the 6A-14 district semifinal on Monday.

“Hats off to Palmetto Ridge,” Naples coach Robert Iamurri said. “They really played solid tonight. They stayed right in the ballgame.”

Starting pitcher Hayley Pinterich went six innings, earning the win for Naples (20-4). Courtney Hogrefe went 3 for 4 and scored a run for Naples, which will face Barron Collier at home on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

District 5A-14

LELY 13, ESTERO 2

Lely rushed past Estero, 13-2, in the 5A-14 district quarterfinal on Monday.

Estero scored the first two runs of the game in the first inning, but Lely bounced back with a run in the first and second. The Trojans enjoyed an eight-run fifth inning to finish off Estero.

“I was very proud of the way we came out and played with a lot of energy,” Lely coach Jess Duesler said. “We played to our strengths. We scored runs every opportunity we got. It was a great way to start districts, and I hope we take this momentum with us against Lehigh.”

Navia Penrod and Vane Palacios each homered for Lely, helping starting pitcher Becca Gates secure a win for the Trojans.

Lely go on the road to face No. 1 seed Lehigh today at 7 p.m.

District 3A-11

ST. JOHN NEUMANN 17, SEACREST 2

Saint John Neumann defeated Seacrest, 17-2, in three innings in the 3A-11 district quarterfinal on Monday.

“The coaches asked the team to work on team focus, and they responded with their best effort of the year,” St. John Neumann coach Andrea Peterson. “District play demands total team effort and we look forward to bringing our best one game at a time. Congrats to Allison Denison on her home run and Michele Peterson for a no-hitter!”

The Celtics (7-11) will face Moore Haven today at 5 p.m. in the semifinal.
