District 5A-14

Golden Gate defeated Immokalee, 7-1, in the 5A-14 district semifinal on Tuesday at Lehigh.

Golden Gate starting pitcher Marinna Shadley earned the win and threw 15 strikeouts. Shadley did not give up a hit until the fifth inning.

“Our senior All-American came to play tonight,” Golden Gate coach Gerry Shadley said of his daughter.

Golden Gate’s Nicole Dwyer and Derian Hall, who hit a home run, each batted 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.

“We came into the game with the idea this is not a must win game for us,” the older Shadley said. “We already accomplished everything we wanted to accomplish tonight.”

Golden Gate (17-8) will face Lehigh on the road in the district final on Thursday at 7 p.m.
