Local golf: Naples' Logan ties for third in Florida State Senior Amateur

Naples’ Howard Logan shot a final-round 74 and tied for third in the 52nd Florida State Senior Amateur on Thursday at Quail Ridge Country Club in Boynton Beach.

Doug LaCrosse of Tampa, Rick Woulfe of Fort Lauderdale, Gordon Marshall of Sarasota, and Logan all were tied with three holes left.

Marshall bogeyed No. 16, LaCrosse bogeyed No. 17, and Logan double bogeyed the hole. That gave Woulfe a one-shot lead going into the last hole. But Woulfe’s tee shot went into the trees, and he had to punch out. LaCrosse and Marshall missed the green, and Woulfe and Marshall missed their par putts. LaCrosse, 60, made his up-and-down to move into a playoff with Woulfe.

LaCrosse birdied the first playoff hole to beat the seven-time Senior Player of the Year.

Owen Joyner of Naples tied for 16th at 222. Naples’ Jim Rollefson and Fort Myers’ Tom Case (226), Lee Booker of Naples (228), Gregg Shires of Fort Myers (229), and Ray Underwood of Naples (233) also made the cut.

Bill Barnes of Bonita Springs, Rokki Rogan of Fort Myers, Bob Becker of Cape Coral, Ray Seemiller of Naples, Peter Swanson of Bonita Springs, John McCreary of Lehigh Acres, Hagan Andersen of Naples, Robert Bernadino of Naples, Donald Johnson of Fort Myers, and Bill Shulha of Fort Myers.
