Women's tennis: Embree, Gators win SEC title

Lely grad Lauren Embree and the University of Florida women’s tennis team won the SEC championship Sunday in Starkville, Miss.

The Gators defeated Georgia, 4-0, for their 19th championship in the 26-year history of the tournament.

Embree, a senior from Marco Island, and Sofie Oyen won their No. 1 doubles match 9-8 (7-2) to secure the doubles point.

In singles, the Gators (22-2) won at Nos. 4, 3 and 5 (in that order) to clinch the title. Embree, playing at No. 1 singles, won the first set against Lauren Herring in a tiebreaker, and was losing 6-5 in the second.
