Prep baseball: First Baptist beats Southwest Florida Christian for second straight 2A-10 crown

First Baptist Academy cruised past Southwest Florida Christian, 11-4, for back-to-back 2A-10 district baseball titles on Thursday in Fort Myers.

Will Watkins allowed three hits, struck out 10 and walked three for the Lions (12-10).

Benji Ritter led the Lions’ offensive run, going 3 for 4 with two RBIs. FBA finished with a whopping 13 hits, compared to three by Southwest Florida Christian.

“The boys came out and executed an excellent offensive game plan,” First Baptist coach Mario Doria said. “It was perfection at its best, opening up with leadoff hit, coming up with two push bunts, drag bunt and everything executed perfectly.”

First Baptist Academy seemed to accomplish everything just according to plan. The Lions feel with the opponents they faced throughout the year really prepared them.

“We played a pretty tough nondistrict schedule that really helped prepare us to sweep our districts,” Doria said. “I’m just so proud of my players and coaching staff for all their hard work and dedication.”

First Baptist Academy will play host to the District 9 runner-up in the regional quarterfinals Wednesday.
