Police: Florida teen dies in drug deal gone bad

DELTONA — A teenager has died after being dragged by the driver of a pickup truck when an apparent drug deal went bad.

Volusia County Sheriff's spokesman Gary Davidson told the Daytona Beach News-Journal that 18-year-old Tristan De Joy died Sunday at Halifax Health Medical Center.

Davidson says witnesses say De Joy walking to the end of the street where he lived Sunday afternoon. Moments later, a pickup truck stopped and then took off at a high rate of speed with the teen hanging onto the side of the vehicle.

The newspaper reports De Joy lost his grip and slipped off the truck.

Witnesses called 911. Davidson said they told deputies the teen sold marijuana. A scale was found in his pocket.

Investigators found the truck and are interviewing the driver.
