Bakers, meat cutters and grocery specialists who are looking for work will have a potential new employer when The Fresh Market opens in East Naples in the coming months.

The Fresh Market needs about 90 employees to staff its newest store, which is opening this fall in the old Winn-Dixie space at the Shops at Eagle Creek, said Drewry Sackett, a spokeswoman for the company. Almost all of the new store’s jobs are expected to be filled locally, Sackett said.

A career open house is slated from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Hilton Naples, 5111 U.S. 41 N., North Naples.

“We are always on the lookout for markets where shoppers appreciate high-quality food and outstanding customer service, and Naples is just such a place,” Sackett said. “Marco Island, Lely and other neighborhood communities in East Naples that have continued to grow are among those markets for which we hope to be a more convenient grocery option.”

The store’s setup crew is scheduled to begin work later this month, Sackett said. Currently, the more than 18,000-square-foot grocery store at U.S. 41 East and Collier Boulevard, is in the middle of an interior renovation.

The contractor is J. Raymond, an Orlando-based company that has worked on a number of The Fresh Market projects. Construction started in late May.

Staples took half of the space vacated by Winn-Dixie in late 2006, but the other half has remained vacant. The addition of The Fresh Market will return a grocery store to the shopping center.

“We are very excited about the addition of Fresh Market at Shops at Eagle Creek and are working to get the space open as soon as possible,” said Adam Basch, spokesman of Kite Realty Group, which manages the complex.

The Fresh Market’s only other store in Collier County is more than 12 miles north in Park Shore Plaza, 4129 U.S. 41 N. The 30-year-old North Carolina-based grocery chain operates 115 stores in more than 20 states, including more than 30 locations in Florida.
