Two men were hospitalized this afternoon after separate shootings in East Naples.
Marco Florentino, 19, told Collier County sheriff’s officials he was jogging on Collier Boulevard south of Interstate 75 around 1 p.m. when someone he didn’t know drove by and shot him, Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Michelle Batten said.
Instead of calling 911, Florentino called a relative who took him to Physicians Regional — Collier Boulevard.
At about the same time, Kiereck Seymour, 23, was shot outside a food market on Radio Road, Batten said. Seymour had a similar story — someone he didn’t know drove by and shot him.
Instead of calling 911, Seymour called a friend who took him to NCH Downtown Naples Hospital.
Neither man suffered life-threatening injuries, Batten said, but both have since been transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. Neither man was able to give a description of the car or the shooter, but both said he didn’t know the shooter.
“We’re looking at the possibility that either they are random (shootings) or related,” Batten said. “Both possibilities are under investigation.”
Batten said both men seem to be giving inconsistent information.
“There is nothing to indicate there is a threat to public safety,” she said.
