Aboard a Sea Excursions vessel searching for and identifying dolphins, the Leadership Marco Class of 2013 began their first session.
Hospitality/Tourism, chaired by Bruce Gear and Debi DeBenedetto, was the topic of the day exposing the class to a wealth of information and sights located on our beautiful Island.
Following the nautical experience, the class was shuttled via Classic Transportation to many Island hotels for tours. At the Lakeside Inn, a generous breakfast provided by Costco was followed by a tour of the grounds.
At the Boathouse Motel, Desiree Buhelos told tales of bootleggers running moonshine through one of the oldest structures on Marco. She acquired the motel at age 25, with her father as cosigner.
Jada Shigley and Joe LaBar from the Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort & Spa provided a detailed tour the of the meeting rooms, kitchen, laundry facility and Presidential Suite before treating the class to a tasty lunch at Quinn’s.
The class would not leave the property until convincing Jada for a tour of the world class spa.
General Manager Mac Chaudhry of the Hilton Marco Beach Resort greeted the class and opened the doors to a penthouse suite featuring views of the gulf and Island, luxury spa and meeting rooms.
The day wrapped up at Marco Beach Ocean Resort with a tour of a two-bedroom suite. General Manager Robert Fesik explained unique artwork adorning the fabulous Sale & Pepe restaurant and offered a delicious sampling of food and drink.
Aug. 22 will be the next Leadership session covering local media.
