The second session of Leadership Marco focused on local media. Chaired by Linda Flores, the Leadership Marco Class of 2013 began their day traveling to the WINK television studios for a tour of the Fort Myers facility. Program Director Greg Stetson served as tour guide, leading the class through the newsroom and introducing staffers. A rare opportunity to observe a live 10 a.m. newscast, anchored by Rob Spicker and Nicole Papageorge, served as the highlight.
Traveling a half hour south from WINK, media day continued with a tour of the Naples Daily News. Len Egdish, advertising director, fielded questions on an array of topics from online advertising to the state-of-the-art printing press. Eric Strachan (managing editor), Jeff Lytle (editorial page editor, “Newsmakers” host) and Jonathan Utz (TV and video manager) engaged the group on a discussion of media coverage and the future of journalism.
Back on the Island, a local panel answered questions and discussed media among different platforms. Media panel members included Vince Modarelli (Marco Eagle), Bob Ladd (WBGY Radio), Val Simon and Monty Lazarus (Coastal Breeze), Quentin Roux (Marco Island Sun Times) and Bill Gaston (Marco Cable).
The next session of Leadership Marco will take place Sept. 4.
