This candidate for city manager, who garnered the most votes (7-0), not only was not included as part of Slavin’s ‘semi-finalists,’ but did not even apply to be part of this round for consideration.
The other thing that bothers me about this candidate is that, although he was continually referred to as ‘Mister X,’ and although our City Council indicated that they did not discuss this candidate previously, “Mister X’s” name and contact details were obviously known to all the councilors as well as Mr Slavin. The selection process is in question.
Mister X is recommended for the city manager position by an acquaintance who happens to be a Marco councilman. Should the other candidates even continue in their pursuit of this position; or is the decision predetermined? The candidate is deceiving his current employer, who warned him of termination if he searched for employment elsewhere. If he goes behind their backs, can we trust him as our city manager? If he must be so secretive, how can we possibly get truthful, meaningful references? And why would we pay Slavin since this candidate was not included in his semi-finalists? Mister X was on the previous headhunter’s list; we shouldn’t pay Slavin for this candidate.
