Power out for about 500 on Marco Island

About 500 Marco Island residents are expected to be without power for about six hours Monday night, according to the Lee County Electric Cooperative.

A problem with a section of power line initially impacted about 2,000 customers around 5:30 p.m. Power was restored within an hour to all but 500 customers in the San Marco Road area, according to the LCEC.

No injuries were reported and nothing was significantly damaged, said a Collier County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman. Marco Island police are directing traffic in the San Marco Road/Gulfport Court area and patrolling nearby neighborhoods, police Capt. Dave Baer said.

LCEC officials said crews are working to rebuild the line and restore power to the affected customers. They said the cause of the outage “is undetermined at this time.”
