Immokalee woman charged with child abuse
An Immokalee woman arrested Thursday faces charges of child abuse and drug possession after she was accused of hiding drugs in her 2-year-old's right shoe.
Candies Collazos, 19, of the 4300 block of Little League Court, and her son were passengers in a car stopped by Collier sheriff's deputies for going 45 mph in a 35 mph zone on South First Street in Immokalee.
Collazos, who deputies say was holding unpackaged marijuana in her hand, told deputies that she hid two capsules with a crystal form of Ecstasy known by its slang name of "Mollie" in a pink plastic bag inside her son's shoe because she feared it would be found in her bra.
The capsules could have broken when the child walked on them, causing the drugs to enter the boy's bloodstream and cause great bodily harm, according to arrest reports.
A second person in the car is facing misdemeanor drug possession charges, and a third is charged with driving without a license.
$600 bar tab leads to arrest
A $600 bar tab ended up costing a North Naples man a trip to jail early Friday.
Christopher Filip Lupu, 33, of the 100 block of East Avenue, is accused of refusing to pay for three bottles of champagne and other mixed drinks at Noodles Cafe.
A drunken and cursing Lupu became increasingly hostile when Collier deputies arrived and attempted to contact the man's father to pay the bar bill and avoid having to charge Lupu with felony grand theft, according to an arrest report.
When Lupu stepped toward one of the deputies and raised his hands, the deputy feared he was going to be attacked, and tried to put Lupu's arm behind his back, the report said. Lupu resisted, and a scuffle ensued.
Lupu faces charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.
