Local golf column: Hideout's Fieger, Fiddler's Creek's Calabria playing in ACE pre-qualifier Thursday

— Hideout Golf Club pro Gene Fieger and Fiddler's Creek's John Calabria are two of six area golfers competing in the ACE Group Classic pre-qualifier on Thursday at Old Corkscrew Golf Club in Estero.

Doug Reed, Gary Boros and Rex Dobyanski of Naples, and Tom Speicher of Fort Myers are the other locals in the 70-man field.

The top five advance to the qualifier, which is Tuesday, also at Old Corkscrew.

A maximum of seven will qualify for the tournament. The qualifier is open only to professionals. Amateur may enter and compete in the pre-qualifier, but if they advance to the qualifier, they must forfeit their amateur status before entering the qualifier. Those amateurs who fail to qualify may apply to the United States Golf Association for reinstatement of amateur status.
