Three missing East Naples teens were found safe Wednesday afternoon in central Texas.
Shyla Valverde, 17, Andrew Ruiz, 16, and Michael “Alec” Gideon, 16, were found by law enforcement in Boerne, Texas, a town along Interstate 10 about 30 miles from San Antonio.
Valverde’s mother, Heather Robinson, said Gideon’s 20-year-old girlfriend, Ashley Hollander, also was in the car.
The teens had been missing since late Friday afternoon when they were thought to have gone to the Everglades Seafood Festival.
Because Valverde is 17, police said she has to choose to come home on her own will, said Robinson, who spoke briefly with her daughter around 5 p.m.
“Of course I said we just want you home and pretty much if you want to move to California, let’s get you a job and start to make some plans. Don’t just leave. You had us worried sick,” Robinson said.
Robinson said her daughter was on her way to California with Ruiz, her boyfriend.
“She wanted to be with Andrew, and Andrew wanted to move to California, so she just went with him,” Robinson said. “Sometimes when you’re in love, you get stupid.”
