Marco Island home destroyed by fire

A Marco Island home was destroyed Monday afternoon after catching on fire.

At 1:12 p.m., a person on Bahama Road reported seeing flames and smoke coming from a home on the 1700 block of Waterfall Court. Collier County EMS and firefighters from Marco Island, Island of Capri and East Naples went to the home and found fire coming from the roof and smoke covering the street.

The owner was not at home at the time of the fire, according to the fire department. Three-quarters of the roof was lost, and the home is considered a total loss, firefighters said.

Fire investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
