When the light is red, a driver is allowed to make a right turn after making a complete stop. The stop enables the driver to check the pedestrian signal and to see if walkers, bikers, mothers pushing baby strollers, runners, etc. plan on crossing with the pedestrian signal.
Too often drivers making a right turn on red do not stop, do not look at the pedestrian light signal, and do not look to see if anyone is crossing the street. This has become a very dangerous situation on Marco Island.
Please drive cautiously and legally obey all signals before there is a very sad situation.
