Open house

The Boston Red Sox will host an open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at JetBlue Park, 11500 Fenway South Drive, Fort Myers. The event will include entertainment, face painting, magicians, a petting zoo, stilt walkers, a bounce house, obstacle course, children's games, arts and crafts and a blood drive. Free.

World War II lecture

A D-Day lecture will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Holocaust Museum & Education Center of Southwest Florida. The center is at 4760 U.S. 41 N., Naples. Free for members and $10 for all others. Light refreshment will be served. Information: 239-263-9200

Antique appraisal

Gary Piattoni, an appraisal expert, will be discussing hidden treasures and will appraise one item per guest at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Carlisle Naples, 6945 Carlisle Court, Naples. Reservations are required by Thursday by calling 239-449-7724.

Legal ideals

The Distinguished Scholars Program of the Ayn Rand Society will discuss the practical need for legal ideals from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Renaissance Academy. The Academy is at 1010 Fifth Ave. S., Naples. Registration: 239-434-4737

Document shredding

IberiaBank will host a document shredding from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 23 at 605 Bald Eagle Drive, Marco Island. Dispose of old bank statements, checks, contracts and other documents safely for a $2 donation per box. All proceeds will benefit the Marco Island Big Flag maintenance account. Baseball discussion

Tommy Watkins, a coach for the Twins organization and a former Minnesota Twins player will give a talk for the Society for American Baseball Research at 6:15 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Collier County Headquarters Library, 2385 Orange Blossom Road, Naples. Green, membership relations; Deborah Jonsson, membership development; Kylee Pitts, hospitality; and Jama Dock, protocol/chapter historian.

Essay winners

The Barefoot Beach Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution awarded the following winners at the Bonita Springs Elementary School: Madison Owens, first place; Holly Hazen, second place; and Eric Medina, honorable mention.

Achievements and accolades

Randy R. Diaz, son of Ana J. Sanchez of Naples, graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Diaz is a 2012 graduate of Naples High School.

Creston Wood graduated from recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Wood is a graduate of Lely High School.

Sarah Zundel, daughter of Janet and Robert Zundel Jr. of Naples, made the 2012 autumn semester dean's list at the University of Montana in Missoula, Mont.
