A Broward County man faces a felony drug trafficking charge after he was pulled over near Estero and found with more than 50 pounds of marijuana.

A Lee County deputy pulled over Linton L. Harris, 54, at mile-marker 125 of Interstate 75 after noticing his white Chevrolet Astro van appeared to have windows tinted darker than the legal limit. The deputy checked Harris but found him to have a valid license and no active warrants, according to an arrest report.

Harris said he was driving to Lehigh Acres to do plumbing work for his niece, the deputy said.

The deputy began writing Harris a warning but noticed he was visibly nervous, sweating and stuttering his words, reports said. The deputy then asked to search Harris’s van and Harris gave permission, according to reports.

Inside the van, the deputy found two packages of marijuana, later weighed at 52.2 pounds. Harris told the deputy he was to be paid $2,000 for making the delivery, according to reports.

Harris, of Miramar, faces a charge of trafficking in marijuana over 25 pounds. He was released from a Lee County jail Tuesday after posting $45,000 bond.
