An East Naples man faces a life felony charge of sexual battery after a now-17-year-old girl told deputies she had been raped several years ago.

Edgar Artuto Vazquez, 34, whose address is redacted to protect the victim's identity, was found and arrested Monday by Collier sheriff's deputies, an arrest report said. He didn't give any statements to deputies regarding the case.

The victim told deputies Vazquez climbed into her bed and had sex with her six to seven years ago, when she was 10 of 11 years old, the arrest report said. The alleged assault took place once, but the victim felt uncomfortable with the way Vazquez hugs, touches and looks at her, the arrest report said.

Deputies said the victim reported the sexual assault in a letter to her mother. The victim was hesistant to speak with deputies because of the time lapse between the alleged assault and crime report.

No bond has been set for Vazquez, a Mexican citizen, as of Tuesday morning. An immigration hold has been placed on him.

Vazquez faces up to life in prison if convicted.
