A second man has been arrested in connection with the January attack of a Golden Gate Estates man.

The victim was at his home on the 400 block of Second Street Southeast on Jan. 30 when two men armed with a handgun knocked him to the ground and began kicking him, according to an arrest report. The men also pointed the gun at the victim and smashed a ceramic lawn ornament on his head, deputies reported.

Mario R. Cepero-Ricardo, 19, who is the brother of the victim’s girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend, was arrested later that day by Collier deputies. But it took until Tuesday to locate his alleged accomplice, Yoel Gonzalez-Rodriguez, 19, according to reports.

Around 2:20 p.m., deputies met with Gonzalez-Rodriguez at a county juvenile justice detention center, where he denied involvement with the attack despite the victim having identified him as one of the assailants. Gonzalez-Rodriguez told deputies he had been hiding with family but would not say where he had been staying.

Like Cepero-Ricardo, Gonzalez-Rodriguez also faces charges of armed burglary, battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. As of Wednesday, he was being held at the Naples Jail Center without bond.
