An Immokalee man is behind bars after a woman told deputies he tried to stab her in her home early Sunday.

The woman, who lives on the 600 block of Booker Street, said an acquaintance she knew as “Luis” came to her apartment door around midnight. The two began arguing and Luis pulled a 3-inch folding knife from his pocket and tried to stab her, according to an arrest report.

The woman struggled with Luis and was able to take away the knife, but her finger was cut in the process, reports said. She told deputies she believed if she had not defended herself that she would have been stabbed.

“Luis,” who was identified by deputies as Ines Lopez, was arrested in the apartment’s courtyard. Reports said he was hostile toward deputies, cursing at them and pulling his arms away as they tried to handcuff him.

Lopez, 42, of the 200 block of Second Avenue, faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and resisting an officer without violence.
