Letter: Obama and the Oscars

Obama and the Oscars

You have to hand it to the Democrats. We watched the Academy Awards to the bitter end, and lo and behold, there was Michelle Obama at the White House, surrounded by uniformed people, reading the winner of the best picture award. She was dressed in her best red carpet designer gown and sure looked like a movie star to me. This has never been done before and was a brilliant publicity event.

That’s what I mean about the Democrats out-thinking Republicans when it comes to reaching out to the low-information voters. That little gig will be remembered long after all the speeches of the Republicans have died away, if they were heard at all.

I remember what Harry Thomason did for Bill Clinton many years ago. Harry was from Arkansas and also a very successful Hollywood producer who knew his PR and how to make Bill look good when all his escapades would have drowned any other politician. Now he is a senior Democratic spokesman even though Clinton’s activities included doing things that made our teenagers think that oral sex is OK because it isn’t real sex.

Don’t laugh about the Obamas going on the popular television shows and getting softball questions. They know exactly what they are doing. We need our own Harry Thomason. The trick is to stay true to our conservative values and still appeal to the low-information voter. Ask Gov. Chris Christie about this.
