A man accused of raping an 11-year-old girl in 2005 is in jail after Collier County detectives used his Facebook page to track his location in Connecticut.
The victim reported the rape in 2008, saying that Jose Guadalupe Hernandez-Posada, her mother’s boyfriend at the time, sexually assaulted her at her home around August of 2005. The victim said he told her that he would kill her if she told anyone.
The family lost touch with Hernandez-Posada in 2006, according to a warrant, but he showed up at the home in 2009 banging on the door and asking for the girl’s mother. Deputies were unable to locate him afterward.
Last October, a witness told deputies they found Hernandez-Posada’s Facebook profile and created a fake page in order to engage him in conversation. The witness was able to find out where he lived and provide a phone number for him.
Detectives issued an arrest warrant Oct. 29. On Jan. 22, the U.S. Marshal Service’s Connecticut violent fugitive task force found Hernandez-Posada at his job at a Hamden, Conn., car wash.
Hernandez-Posada was extradited and booked into the Naples Jail Center on Tuesday. Bond was withheld for the charge of sexual battery on a victim under 12.
