NAPLES — Troopers are seeking help from the public to find the vehicle involved in a Collier County crash this morning that seriously injured a Naples man on a motor scooter.
Howard A. Vanpelt, 47, was injured when he and his scooter were struck from behind by a vehicle that left the scene. The crash occurred about 1:30 a.m. Thursday on Golden Gate Parkway just west of Interstate 75, the Florida Highway Patrol reports.
Vanpelt was eastbound on the right-side edge of the right lane of the Parkway when he was struck by another eastbound vehicle that continued driving east toward Golden Gate after the crash. Vanpelt, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was ejected onto the road. He was taken to NCH Hospital with serious injuries, FHP reports.
Charges are pending upon locating the driver of the vehicle who left the scene. The FHP is asking the public to assist in locating the vehicle, a 1996 Chrysler Sebring with possible damage to its headlight area.
If anyone has any information regarding this traffic crash, they are asked to call Trooper David Rodriguez at 239-938-1800.
