A Washington man "just passing through" Naples was arrested Tuesday night on the beach after he lit fireworks and spit in a police officer's face, according to an arrest report.

Around 6:45 p.m., Naples police found Joshua Michael Regnier, 24, sitting on the beach, lighting fireworks and drinking a beer, reports said. A witness told officers Regnier was setting off the fireworks toward people and scaring a group of women who were walking the beach.

Regnier, who was sitting next to three empty beer cans, told police he was homeless and "just passing through" on his way to Key West. While police placed Regnier into protective custody, he spit on an officer's face and the windshield of the patrol car, according to the report.

Police said Regnier fell asleep on the way to jail. When he woke up, he spit in the backseat, attempted to vomit, then urinated on himself, reports said.

Regnier, of Olympia, Wash., faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer, resisting an officer without violence and disorderly intoxication.
