DEERFIELD BEACH — The Florida Highway Patrol says two people died and another is in extremely critical condition after their SUV went into a lake off Interstate 95 near Deerfield Beach.
FHP Sgt. Mark Wysocky told the South Florida SunSentinel the lone survivor of Wednesday night's crash is a woman in her 20s.
Broward County Department of Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said police and divers searched the area and pulled two women and one man from the water. He estimated that the victims were in their early 20s.
Jachles said one of the women was in cardiac arrest but was resuscitated by rescuers before being transported to the hospital.
It was not immediately clear what caused the crash, which involved three vehicles.
FHP has not released the identities of the victims
