Two Immokalee men face sexual assault charges, accused of abusing an elementary schoolgirl previously victimized by Robert Alter, a former school volunteer convicted of molesting nine children between 2010 and 2011.
William Alexander Mejia, 23, and Jaime Jimenez Migangos, 27, both are accused or rubbed their genitals on the victim on several occasions in 2010, allegations both men deny, Collier County sheriff’s deputies said. The Daily News is withholding the addresses of Mejia and Migangos, as well as their relation to the victim, to protect the victim’s identity. The assaults were not random, deputies said.
The victim disclosed the two assaults to a therapist, who the victim was seeing after being molested by Alter, 62, deputies reported.
In July 2011, Alter pleaded guilty to 23 counts of molestation and attempted sexual battery of victims between the ages of 7 and 11. Those assaults of abuse took place at Highlands and Pinecrest elementary schools, as well as Alter’s home. Alter was sentenced to 30 years in prison, essentially a life sentence given his health problems, lawyers from both sides said at the time of the plea.
Deputies started investigating Mejia and Migangos case in May 2011, but an arrest wasn’t made for more than 1 1/2 years because investigators had difficulty tracking the two suspects, an arrest report said.
Both men remain in jail without bond set.
