A man and a woman face charges of cruelty toward children after Collier County sheriff's deputies found two children in the back seat of a car emitting a heavy smell of marijuana, according to an arrest report.

Around 6:45 p.m. Monday, a deputy in an unmarked car pulled into a gas station at 384 Randall Blvd. and smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from a car next to him, reports said. A K-9 called to the scene confirmed the presence of narcotics, deputies reported.

Two children were in the back seat, according to the report. Inside the car, deputies said they found a large bag of marijuana, a glass bong and large pieces of compressed marijuana on the floorboard.

Jorge Luis Lara, 23, of the 500 block of North 11th Street in Immokalee, and Wendy Carolyn Jimmie, 35, of Clewiston, Fla., each face one felony charge of cruelty toward children, one felony charge of marijuana possession and one misdemeanor charge of drug paraphernalia possession.
