A construction worker in Fort Myers was arrested Monday on accusations that he used a fraudulent Social Security number to get a job.

Investigators discovered the fraud after Adelso Chavez, 25, filed worker's compensation paperwork using the identification number after he fell and injured himself in October.

Chavez first used the Social Security number in February when he applied for a job with Ogden Brothers Construction, according to an arrest report. While working Oct. 15, he fell, injuring his buttocks, right knee, right foot and left arm, detectives said.

Following the accident, Chavez tried to claim worker's compensation benefits, but the insurance company determined he was using a Social Security number that did not belong to him. The Florida Division of Insurance Fraud initiated an investigator and confirmed that the number belonged to someone else, according to reports.

Chavez, of the 1400 block of Apple Street in Immokalee, faces a felony charge of criminal use of personal identification information.
