— The National Rifle Association president says Congress is not likely to pass a new ban on assault weapons.

David Keene tells CNN's "State of the Union" that right now the powerful gun lobby has the support in Congress to block a new assault weapons ban, but he's not discounting any proposal backed by the full power of the White House.

Senior members of Congress have pledged to ban assault weapons and limit the sale of high-capacity ammunition magazines like the one used to kill 27 people, most of them children, in Newtown, Conn., last month.

Vice President Joe Biden is expected to send a comprehensive package of recommendations for curbing gun violence to President Barack Obama on Tuesday, including universal background checks and bans on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines.

I have no idea what that means. Fact is, we have not enough women in President Barack Obama's new administration. The question is:

Where is Mitt Romney, when you need him? During the election campaign, the Republicans boasted with his open policy: as Governor he did take "whole folder of full of women", so that his Cabinet had no macho swirl. The statement brought him much ridicule, especially by President Barack Obama .

Three months later the Pike has turned around: Now it is President Barack Obama, which could - help such lists in the own cabinet reshuffle.

"Obama needs a few folders with women," fun columnist Ruth Marcus in the "Washington Post", half in jest. Why Obama's Cabinet "has so much testosterone and estrogen so little?", blasphemed the Republican Mike Huckabee. Also, the Democrat Charles Rangel agrees: After all the campaign gloating about Romney President Bareack Obama must be really embarrassing, he said in the cable TV station MSNBC. "Embarrassing as hell." Top-embarassing.

In fact: President Bareack Obama's new Cabinet is a gentlemen's Club, so far at least. A white gentlemen's Club - little women, hardly any minorities. "All the President's men", critic, an allusion to the 1970s years best-selling book about Richard Nixon's Watergate rogue guards from white men sniff. "Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah appointed more women," seconded that "New York magazine".

I am a little bit disappointed. Hopefully President Barack Obama is doing some decisions changes. Otherwise he will be called a softy. I do not like a softy as President.

The first winner is the Rambo club called NRA!

Nice! Sometimes, the folks need to be reminded with a review of history and application of the 2nd Amendment.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

And I had to review the term: militia, just to gain some perspective

I mean if your argumentation will be based on the time around 1800 the Holy Roman Catholic Church can activate their Malleus Maleficarum!
Maybe some conservatives around this dogmatic Pope will like that.
But nonsense is nonsense. Nothing else.

1Paradiselost writes:

The meaning of "militia"

The word "militia" is a Latin abstract noun, meaning "military service", not an "armed group" (with the connotation of plurality), and that is the way the Latin-literate Founders used it. The collective term, meaning "army" or "soldiery" was "volgus militum". Since for the Romans "military service" included law enforcement and disaster response, it might be more meaningfully translated today as "defense service", associated with a "defense duty", which attaches to individuals as much as to groups of them, organized or otherwise.

When we are alone, we are all militia units of one. When together with others in a situation requiring a defensive response, we have the duty to act together in concert to meet the challenge. Those two component duties, of individuals to defend the community, and to act together in concert with others present, when combined with a third component duty to prepare to do one's duty and not just wait until the danger is clear and present, comprises the militia duty.

K:

If you read the contemporary articles of 1946, you will gain a sense of the turmoil.

http://constitution.org/mil/tn/batath...

If you delve deep into the mindset of returning GI's that were being arrested by local law enforcement for a host of issues including drinking and mayhem, you can begin to get a glimpse into their perspective.

In essence, the Battle of Athens may have began with "alcohol dependent or the ugly out of control short=tempered people" GI's recently returning home from the war.

Interestingly, the heroes were this class of citizens, because they could distinguish between freedom and corruption even under the influence and had the wits about them to exercise their rights as noted in the 2nd Amendment.

http://www.americanheritage.com/conte...

If people believe a government could never turn on its people, then they chose to ignore history and the history of civilization.

I believe that is why the 2nd Amendment is so revered by Americans, irregardless of state of mind.

During my time in the Service, the M-1 was the only weapon of choice.

The M16 would have been a better choice during the big city riots in the 60's, and will soon come in handy for self-defense during the next series of riots that Obamee will cause because of his continuous attack on our Constitution.

Do you really believe this clown can drive a car after 0900 and his third vodka on ice?
And please, not in a canal. Maybe the fire spender want a second rescue boat.

Another right wing loser! You notice how they come out of the sewer like rats to support others who have the same hate agenda against Americans.

Just read their past posts. These people hide safely behind their keyboards and promote anti American comments. These are the same hypocrites who will idolize their heroes this Sunday during the NFL playoffs..... But on Monday morning put down the same group of people.

If you knew anything about America my friend... you would know that CONGRESS makes the laws NOT the President! I was taught that in 3rd grade.

The problem here is that some people are to stupid & lazy to find out the truth. They take the easy way out by watching FOX news and listen to blowhards like themselves namely Rush Limbaugh.

It's easier to hate... Because It's hard to learn how to seek the truth.

Rush is no better than shock jock Howard Stern. Howard promotes sex and Rush promotes hate. Both are laughing at you all the way to the bank!

It's sad that so many people in America are so gullible.
