FORT MYERS - In an effort to reduce noise impacts in Lee County from flights to and from Southwest Florida International Airport, the Board of Port Commissioners voted 5-0 Monday to send a plan to the Federal Aviation Administration.
For years, hundreds of people living along flight paths, especially in southern regions of the county, including Estero, Fort Myers Beach and The Forest community, have complained the noise is more than an annoyance.
Tom Babcock, who lives on Fort Myers Beach and previously served on the town's council, says the noise deters visitors from returning to the island.
"They can't sit on the lanai and carry on a conversation," Babcock said.
